Texas Hill Country Travel to Jellystone

Last year (2024) my wife and I traveled to Jellystone with the grandkids for Halloween. We were setting up the RV and noticed that the park was pretty full, probably because of the nice weather.

Anyway, after a while I noticed that a huge number of campers were decorating for Halloween. We started talking to some of the other people getting set up and found out that it seems to be an annual event there.

I knew that Jellystone has a cartoon type theme and is geared toward kids and fun, but this was ideal for small children.

My wife and I didn't come prepared for any decorating, so we just helped out our neighbors a little.

As it was getting closer to sundown, little kids decked out in their costumes created a line making its way to all the RVs in the park. Almost everybody had a table set up with treats to hand out to the kids. And the kids had a blast.

By the time the sun started to go down and get dark, the kids had pretty much finished their rounds. Then the lights started to come on and really highlighted the scary decorations.

It was quite a surprise for us to see such a full-blown event with all the elaborate decorations.

It was great!

think ahead and keep on planning

If you just get in the car and go for a drive to enjoy the scenery, you may not need to plan much (except for remembering to take your phone, ID and some cash).

But if your plans will include a girls' weekend or full blown wedding, a little thinking ahead is a must.

I understand your level of planning will vary depending on how elaborate and involved you want your trip.  So, maybe these resources will help you decide what level of planning you want.

  • TexyHills Checklist - A short 1-page list of 10 things to book first, for a smooth weekend.  Yours free when you sign up for the TexyHills Fan Newsletter.
  • TexyHills Planning Guide - An easy quick-reference to help you think about when to visit, getting around, avoiding big crowds, etc.
  • Ultimate Texas Hill Country Guide - A much more comprehensive guide including maps, itineraries, where to stay, etc.  It also has a table of contents for easy navigation.
  • Fredericksburg Wine Weekend - My most complete done-for-you 3-day plan, reservation strategy, and curated drive loops (with a built-in Plan B).  Specifically for first-timers.
