Texas Hill Country Resorts
Texas Hill Country Resorts are calling your name.
This is where a relaxed pace meets elevated taste—perfect for travelers who want comfort, charm, and a little adventure.
The Hill Country runs right up against Austin and San Antonio, so getting here is a breeze.
It’s close enough for a quick weekend, but it feels like a world away from routine. You’ll drive past live oaks, wildflowers during springtime, and vineyard signs that hint at the good times to come.
Before we go on…
Since this page is about “resorts”, I don’t talk much about other types of lodging (camping, cabins, RVs, hotels, treehouses, etc.). But please, read on anyway.
Even though it doesn’t include all the lodging possibilities, this page will still give you an idea of things to expect when you venture into TexyHills.
And this map will help you with overall locations.
Half the fun
I've heard it said that "Getting there is half the fun".
Well I don't know how accurate that is, but I tend to agree with it.
I have to say, though, that the towns have to be at least part of the fun too.

Now… let’s talk wine
The 290 Wine

Entrance to Signore Vineyards
Book tastings at:
- Becker Vineyards
- William Chris
- Grape Creek
- Pedernales Cellars
- Signor Vineyards
- Kuhlman Cellars
- Lost Draw
- Baron's Creek Vineyards
With over 100 wineries throughout the hill country, this is just a small handful.
But a tasting at any one of these will show you why this region keeps winning over fans.
Most of the wineries offer seated tastings. And some include food pairings, tours, or vineyard walks. At a few of them you can even stomp some grapes (if you really want to).
Do you love craft beer and spirits?
You’re in luck.
- Jester King

- Desert
Door in Driftwood.

diverse and delicious
I’m sure you
will also want to know about a few restaurants too. The dining scene here offers great variety and flavor.
- In
Fredericksburg, Otto’s German Bistro, Cabernet Grill, and Vaudeville bring
serious culinary expertise.
- Driftwood’s
The Salt Lick is a Texas barbecue legend, especially after a day of wine
tasting.
- Wimberley’s
The Leaning Pear celebrates Hill Country flavors with creek-side views.
- In Gruene,
the Gristmill pairs river breezes with comfort food. You can go fancy or casual
and still eat incredibly well.
Quite a few of these examples are independent restaurants that you can choose during your stay.
But many of the Texas Hill Country Resorts have onsite restaurants.
The Omni Barton Creek Resort & Spa and Horseshoe Bay Resort each have multiple restaurants.
Shopping is big part of this experience too
Shopping opportunities present themselves at practically every town in TexyHills. It's not really my thing, but I know that many, many, people love to shop.
Fall colors in Fredericksburg
I do actually like going through Rusltin’ Rob’s (it's the tasting place) when I visit Fredericksburg.
They are a Texas Gourmet Food store that has sauces, glazes, salsa, dips, butters, condiments, jams, jelly... well, you get the picture.
The great thing about it is that you can taste samples of practically everything.
Another place that I find interesting is the Pottery Ranch. They call themselves "The Gettin' Place" and quite possible the coolest store ever.
They pretty much have all things Texas.
I spent over an hour in there one afternoon checking out all the unique things I had never seen before. Not bad for someone who is not a shopper.
Here are a few more places that offer superb shopping.
- Stroll Fredericksburg’s Main Street for galleries, home goods, and other gourmet shops.
- Wimberley’s Square and Market Days (one of the state’s largest) make for a treasure hunt weekend.
- Boerne’s Hill Country Mile is perfect for fashion, art, and wine bars.
- Comfort is antique heaven.
- Marble Falls adds lake-town boutiques.
- Near La Cantera Resort, you’ve got upscale retail at The Shops at La Cantera.
Families have a blast
Families
love how easy it is to relax here.
The JW
Marriott and Hyatt Regency Hill Country both wow kids with lazy rivers,
waterslides, and splash zones. Parents can
stretch out in cabanas or hit the spa. Evening s’mores and lawn games keep the
fun going.
Day trips to
Natural Bridge Caverns or Schlitterbahn in New Braunfels add adventure without
long drives.
